Fall Fashion Diary - #1: The Hot & the Cold - Snakeskin Print Skirt
Fall has officially arrived! For some of us it's still scorching hot and balmy outside. For others, there's a chill in the air to mark the changing of the seasons. And for a few, it's a mixture of the two; chilly mornings and evenings with comfortably warm weather during the afternoon hours. I, personally, can't wait to become part of the latter group, which is typically the hallmark of a Miami, Florida Fall/Winter. At best, we get an average of 3 weeks worth of actual COLD weather for the entire Fall/Winter season.
This means I get nearly 20 WHOLE days to make use of my cute boots, sweaters and coats. It's a proper winter if we're lucky enough to get more days than that. I say lucky, because although I live in a warm climate, Fall is one of my favorite seasons. It's a welcome break from the stifling humidity and an opportunity to wear dark, rich Fall colors without worrying about attracting more heat. Also, I love being able to wear boots and cocoon myself in chunky knit sweaters; layering items for a complete look. It's also nice to be able to actually wear my winter wardrobe versus having things go unworn because there just wasn't enough cold days to wear every item at least once!
For the most, part, my Fall and Winter season typically calls for a "transitional weather" wardrobe. In that way, I get to play around with a richer color palette while still finding ways to keep cool during warm hours and harbor warmth for the chilly ones.
Transitional weather means booties in place of those that go up to the knee or or over. It means booties with open toes or some kind of design that allows air inside the shoe to keep my feet cool while the rest of the bootie keeps my feet warm. It's a balancing act I've come to enjoy and feel I've perfected over the years. When you love clothes as much as I do, you WILL find a way to wear the cute things you've purchased and make them suitable for the season or occasion. You also figure out how to "winterize" pieces to take them from Spring and Summer into the Fall/Winter.
And this brings me to the first entry into my Fall Fashion Diary series.
Neutrals are in for Fall/Winter 2019-20 and snakeskin has officially joined the group which normally comes to mind when you think "neutral". The black, brown and grays in the pattern can be blended with almost anything, regardless of season. For this outfit, I paired a snakeskin print skirt with another neutral - camel.
In nature that would be a bad pairing (snake and camel). However, in fashion, I think it came together nicely for the still-warm weather of Miami. The keep cool part is that the skirt is of a chiffon-type material (with lining), the short-sleeve boatneck (or off-the-shoulder) camel top and a pair of camel colored caged booties.
Although I could get away with wearing these booties in the Spring/Summer due to their light color, they're the item in this outfit that screams Fall, along with the length of the skirt. I wore this outfit to work, earlier this week, and got my Fall groove on. I'm SO ready!
Now, for those of you who are experiencing colder weather, I've styled the skirt in a way where you could still rock it while keeping warm. The second look, with tall black boots and black jacket is one of the ways I plan to wear it when the temperature finally drops here.
