Fall Fashion Diary #3: Neutrals
While everyone is reaching for the black, brown and greys for Fall, it's always refreshing to bring in colors you wouldn't ordinarily think of for the season. Camel tones tend to be a Fall staple, but whites and pastels and lighter shades tend to be a rarity.
This dress in a taupe houndstooth or dog's tooth pattern, caught my eye as a transitional weather item. First, houndstooth is a popular pattern for Fall, but you generally find it in black and white or dark brown and white. So, when I spied this on h&m, for a penny shy of thirty dollars, I added it to my cart. With a pair of caged booties, it could easily be suitable for a warmer fall day. Add a pair of knee boots and a warm jacket and it transforms into a cold weather neutral that stands out in a sea of black and greys.
Houndstooth typical denotes an air of mature sophistication, but the lighter tone gave me a more youthful and playful vibe. Pairing and layering it with additional neutral tones made for an interesting palette of lightness in cooler weather.
Are you into lights and brights during cooler weather or do you stick to the tried and true?
