Summer Style Diary: Let the Sunshine In with Mustard Monochrome!

Updated: May 16, 2021

What color could be the best representation of summer than the color of the sun?

Whether you prefer a more pastel shade of soft yellow, a mid-range shade of banana yellow or the deep, richer tone of mustard, yellow has to be in the top 3 of popular colors.

For my look of the day, I decided to turn it up a notch and incorporate it into a monochromatic look (if you don't count the white stripes in the top). For the most part, EVERYTHING is in this outfit is a darker shade of saffron.

Monochromatic can easily come across as boring or harsh, but this look could be softened up by adding white or light brown accessories or given an interesting edge by adding a pop of color in accessories (think turquoise or an equally bold, but summery color).

Keep in mind, mustard - being on the deeper shade of the color spectrum - has the potential to draw and hold heat, but lighter fabrics, as shown here, can be kept lightweight. The top is in a flowy cotton blend and cropped, while the pants are a lightweight linen and also very flowy.

What do you think of this monochromatic look? A little too much sunshine or just the right amount?
