Lounge/Weekend Fashion Diary #1: 7-Piece Pajama Set

It's 2020 and most of us are spending more time in our humble abodes due to Covid19; working, taking online classes or home-schooling the kids and only getting outside to pick up essentials, treat ourselves to quick and socially-distant excursions or visits with family.

For the large amount of time spent at home, we're finding ourselves schlepping around the house in whatever we can grab to fit the needs of the day. Sometimes that means going through the entire day in what we slept in the night before. Admit it, you've rolled out of bed, on occasion - if not often - in your PJs and logged straight into work or school whenever video wasn't a requirement. I know I have!

Having said that, I HAVE been making the effort to treat every weekday as a true work day, which means making the bed and not working from it, getting cleaned up and changing into something more presentable than my PJs; even if it's just a nice, comfortable dress or loungewear set for days when my presence isn't required, or a cute top with a casual pair of bottoms or skirt on days when I have Zoom calls and need to look somewhat professional and human. Not only does it make me feel less like a slouch, but it gets my mind right for the day. With the days all seemingly merging together, making myself presentable on weekdays helps distinguish the chill time from work time. Believe it or not, this is vital to staying motivated when you're at home surrounded by distractions and temptations you wouldn't normally have when at the office (laundry, chores, calls with friends and family, extra walks with the dog, etc.) Daily life can start to feel like the movie Groundhog Day where it's the same thing day after day. I've heard several people say it's hard to keep up with what day it is, now that they're working from home. Work life and home life are starting to merge into one continuous cycle, especially for those who work even on weekends. The boundaries are blurred and there's no STOP, unless you force one.

For the most part, even weekends and self-care days feel a little more productive when I'm dressed less like a slouch. Sometimes that means spending the day in a NICE pair of pajamas. Changing out of an old slept-in pair, taking a shower and putting on a nicer pair to get through a day of Netflix and chill feels like a luxury.

On a sick day, I feel less yucky after I've showered and put on a nice pair of pajamas to stay in bed and binge out on Golden Girls and 90's sitcoms. And when traveling, I'm as choosy about what pajamas I want to take to enjoy my overnight stays as much as I care about my day-to-day travel wardrobe. That brings me to the first entry of my Loungewear/Sleepwear series where I'll be sharing cute and affordable loungewear and pajamas you can pick up at affordable prices. My sleepwear collection started years ago, but I've been upping my pajama game for the past 4 or 5 years to include more options like below instead of Mickey Mouse shorts, joggers and a tank top.

First off, the blush pink/mauve color was the major draw for me. The white piping, pinstripes and graphic detailing sealed the deal. Beautiful! I've purchased great quality satin pajamas from Shein before, but this was my first multi-set and even after a round in the wash, everything held up. So many pieces for that price made me naturally suspicious! The cute travel bag, garter and hair scrunchie are cute bonus accessories to complete the set.

Not only is this ensemble affordable in comparison to other silk or satin versions on the market, but the various inter-changeable pieces transcend all seasons, which means not only do you get more bang for your buck, but it's a sustainable fashion item. It's not the thickest of satin, but for Miami, where I reside, it's perfect. The shorts and cami are great for Spring/Summer nights, while the long pants and long-sleeve button down work well for our mild Fall/Winter temperatures; also good for warmer weather if you're indoors with the A/C cranked up. I have another pair of satin PJs from Shein that aren't the thickest, but they can get pretty warm under a comforter; sometimes, too warm! Check out the different ways to wear these pieces below:
