Style Diary #1 : Red Hot Pants

Updated: May 16, 2021

Summer is over, but in places like Miami the weather is still full of steamy days. However, because it's actually Fall, it's an opportunity to bring out items with deeper palette tones and lower hemlines like long pants, midi skirts and dresses, and a few lightweight leather-look pieces. A nice dip in temperature HAS descended on us down South, but for the most part, we can still get away with items reminiscent of Summer. In short, this is truly transitional weather for us where we're in limbo between sweater weather and lighter fabrics.

That brings me to today's ensemble involving these bright reddish/orange wide-leg pants in this super lightweight material. The color and length makes it suitable for Fall, yet the material allows for swift Fall breezes to provide relief from any the heat red pants tend to absorb from the sun.

Also, keeping the look airy, cool and colorful is this one-shoulder blouse with a vibrant floral design, which is both tropical (bird of paradise) and Fall-like (sunflowers).

Accessories include a pair of espadrilles, which are still in season here, but the red easily transitions into Fall. Rounding out the jewel tones of this look is a dark yellow, mustard colored bucket bag.

I think all of these items come together for a classy casual look that toggles between being suitable for warm weather, while exhibiting a deeper palette that works for Fall.

This is also an ensemble that works for day tripping while on a tropical vacay/getaway. What do you think?

By the way, these espadrilles are about 14 years old. I paid around $10 for them (on clearance) in a store that went out of business some years later (Rave). Also picked them up in black and brown. The black pair gave out on me about 1-2 years ago (I wore them the most), but the brown and red are still going strong. Like I always say, not everything that costs a pretty penny gives you the best quality and sometimes things that are more affordable can be of tremendous quality for the price you pay. I'm surprised, myself, at how long these have lasted!
