End-of-Summer/Early Fall - Vacation Style; Skirting the Seasons
Summer is quickly coming to a close - per the calendar - but for many of us, high temperatures will persist long after the date. And although back-to-school and back-to-work season has begun, staycations and vacations are still on a few agendas. With Fall just around the corner, it can be hard to decide what to where during transitional weather season. For me, it's a time to bring out some of the deeper and darker colors of the palette that are bright and cheerful enough to represent Summer, but are also rich enough to be suitable for Fall. There ARE some colors, although very summer-y, that just aren't practical due to the heat factor. You know, those colors that draw heat when that's the last thing you want under the beaming sun. Reds, dark blues and black tones absorb heat like crazy. I generally save them for transitional times to navigate the changing of the seasons and fluctuation of temperatures.
In Miami, it's going to be swelter weather for much longer than most, but the deeper, darker colors will seem more "in season" and feel more tolerable than in previous months. Below are a few looks I put together, which capture both Summer and Pre-Fall vibes. Skirts long enough for cooler weather, but paired with tops that are clearly designed for warmer occasions. These cute, casual, and feminine ensembles are great for weekend shopping or sightseeing vacation days.
Grecian Aquatica
This deep blue and turquoise drawstring-waist skirt by the brand, Jackpot (can't locate online), was picked up in Dd's for about $12. The cute turtle print in the front caught my eye, in addition to the stunning color. I knew the gold trim outlining the turtle (as well as the mini-turtles at the hem) was the perfect opportunity for me to pair the skirt with gold accessories. I searched high and low for the perfect aqua-hued top to accompany the skirt and hit the "jackpot" at SHEIN. Not only is it the perfect shade to accent the skirt, but it truly turns up the color factor. The cropped waist and deep v-neck adds a subtle taste of sex appeal to what could otherwise be a rather homely, boho skirt. The puff sleeves are very much on trend, right now, and adds to the femininity factor. The Grecian look of the blouse pairs well with the gladiator sandals that wrap around the ankle (my favorite detail in shoe or sandal) for an outfit I call Grecian Aquatica!
The gold pouch seen in the photo, above, actually comes with a larger, clear tote (pictured below). I love the versatility of being able to use the large tote alone, with the inner pouch, or simply using the interior pouch as an underarm clutch on its own.
I've included photos and links to similar items if you're interested in recreating the look as some items are unavailable online and no longer available in-store. The necklace I'm wearing has a dragon emblem on one side, but I decided to use the flat side for a more sleek vibe.

Blue Landscape de Jouy
Not everyone loves toile. Some downright hate it. I admit, I'm not a fan of it on wallpaper or furniture - it's a tad too much for my eyes in that capacity - but I can appreciate it in small doses. When I was small child my Mom had a toile patterned tea set and and I was fascinated with the blue and white artwork. After all the tea cups eventually broke, the sugar bowl was repurposed to hold my barrettes. Since then, I can't recall toile being on my radar in a positive light until a couple of years ago, when Chloe updated it in its 2019 collection and the dupes made their way to SHEIN. It was love at first sight all over again. I picked up a red print shirt dress, a blue print top, a black print skirt over the past 3 years, and now this blue print maxi skirt (pictured below). They all have varied patterns with interesting takes on the traditional "toile de jouy" design. This one from Zanzea, on a linen-like fabric and found on Ebay, was a print and coloring I couldn't pass up. That it was less than $20 made it all the more irresistible. Paired with a blue off-the-shoulder top from Shein, this outfit is the epitome of elevated casual wear. If I hadn't told you how much the skirt cost, you would think it cost much MUCH more! This look is great for art tours. View the art on the walls and in the halls, while others also admire the art on your skirt!

Festival of Colors
This maxi skirt with its cornucopia of vivid colors is 8 years old. It was purchased from Rainbow Shops for less than $20 and it's still going strong in color and quality. It's my favorite thing to grab on days when I want to wear a skirt, but don't have the time or energy to shave my legs! Maxi skirts are great for camouflage and this zig-zag/Chevron pattern, reminiscent of something from Missoni, is perfect for that. The pattern is great for hiding a host of issues in the tummy or hip areas with its excessive and flowy fabric. On a day when the abs are on their best behavior, you can also top it with a crop top, as I've done in the photos below. You can pick any color out of the skirt to pair on top and I chose this plain, orange cropped tank top. It's the perfect air of lightness in contrast with all the fabric below. It's also a vibrant pop of color that fits well into both seasons as well as for transitioning from one to the other. I considered using the aqua top with this skirt, but the orange tank seemed to really bring the skirt to life. This look is great for exotic vacations and dancing to festive music without a care in the world. The pattern, during a twirl, is enough to hypnotize any onlooker!
