Spring Trench | Entrenched in Color
It's the in-between season where - for many places - the weather may not be frosty enough for a puffy or wool coat, but still breezy and possibly rainy enough for light outerwear. A trench coat fills that fashion void perfectly. A cardigan can serve this purpose, too, but it's not ideal for protection from the rain.
Now, your typical - most popular - trench coats come in neutral tones of beige, black or navy. And for as much as I vibe with the classics, I wanted to venture into more colorful territory with my trench. In 2021 I found a mustard toned trench on SHEIN and immediately added it to my Fall/Winter wish list. That wish was generously granted. Between the interesting color, the style details and craftmanship for the price I paid, it was my most prized fashion item that year. Unfortunately, living in a tropical climate meant I only had the opportunity to wear this wardrobe wonder only once since I acquired it (images at the very end of this posting).
Currently, the weather is ripe for bringing out my trench. The temperatures are moderate and it's raining like crazy. April showers bring May flowers, and it's also bringing me styling ideas. Even if I'm unable to wear them all, my hope is it will give you, dear reader, ideas on how to style up the trench in your closet or inspire you to take a risk on a trench of color. Despite it's mustard-like tone, I find this color to be as versatile as a basic neutral. It's also a color perfect for transitioning into the palette of Spring and later in the Fall.

This how I managed to wear the trench in colder weather. It seemed like a good outfit at the time, but looking back it, I'm not so sure. I feel like the trench doesn't work with wide-leg pants. Too much bulk. Let me know what you think!
