Style Diary : Wardrobe Obsession #1 | Ombre Skirt

I've decided to start a new series featuring items I'm currently obsessed with. Granted, you should be obsessed with everything you buy, but let's be honest, there's pieces that will always get you a little more excited to wear them than others. These are items we imagine wearing all kinds of ways for all kinds of occasions, or just all the time. It's also a way for me write or gush about a singular item at a time without waiting for a look book, video, or outfit of the day post to happen. Right now, I am obsessed with this purple ombre skirt from SHEIN.

First of all, purple is one of my favorite colors and has been for about 20 years. Recently, maybe within the past 2 years, I've been more drawn to shades of green. So, when I peeped this satiny skirt on the site, incorporating two of my fave colors, it was love at first sight. The ombre, almost tie-dyed swirl effect was a nice twist in bringing the colors together. Although there's a significant amount of black in the design, I figured a white or colorful top would easily lighten things up for the warmer seasons. It gives the look and feel of satin while being lightweight and breathable to beat the heat. There is little to no stretch in this material, so paying close attention to the measurements on the site for perfect sizing is a must. For reference, I ordered this skirt in a Medium (size 6) and the fit is spot on; the the material skimming my hips without any tightness, yet fitting my waist without any gaping.

Initially, I envisioned pairing this look with white heels and accessories, but for sh-ts and giggles, I grabbed green accessories to see if a pop of color could work for an alternate look. Lo and behold, the green gave me all the life I was hoping to get from this outfit. The green sunglasses, however, didn't hit the mark for me, at least not with this hairstyle (or maybe it was the style of the sunglasses). The purple sunnies, however, continued to exude the feminine energy the overall outfit is giving. So, not only was I able to rock a pop of color with this skirt, but I was able to incorporate my 2nd favorite color, purple, into the overall look for balance.

Outfit with Green Sunglasses

I think this outfit is perfect for a brunch date or semi-casual/dressy occasion, but I also imagine wearing it with white accessories for a more traditional event; just because I think the green adds an element of FUN to the outfit. White strappy heels would make this perfect for a garden party or church event. Let me know in the comments if you agree or disagree.

Finally, when I add an item to my wardrobe, I'm not only thinking about wearability for the season in which its acquired, but its future potential in other seasons. The tones in this skirt will easily transition into Fall where I'd bring in more complementary pieces to coordinate with the black hue. Although this skirt is extremely affordable, my goal is to always get more bang and longevity for my buck.
