Style Diary: Wardrobe Obsession #4 | White Pajama Set from The Holiday movie

It's been 7 years since I first laid eyes on the Rom-Com Christmas classic "The Holiday" despite it's release in 2006. It took me ten years to discover this masterpiece of movie magic based around two women, fed up with their love lives, who decide to switch homes for the Christmas holiday. Stumbling into this movie - a decade after it's release - in the warmth of Spring was actually a stroke of luck. The music, the scenery, the fashion and the sappy (but entertaining) storyline sucked me in from the moment I glance up from whatever it was I was doing and looked at the screen.

A show I had been half-watching while doing something else (can't remember what) went off and "The Holiday" followed without so much as an acknowledgement from me. It wasn't until I heard a bar of Hans Zimmer's "Definitely Unexpected", which reminded me of the song "Imogene" by David Sanborn, that I glanced up to see Cameron Diaz (as Amanda Woods) and Jude Law (as Graham Simpkins) onscreen; both confused about an unexpected kiss that had just transpired between them. Amanda, startled in a good way, proceeds to ask for a second go at the smooch, which Graham, although hesitant, obliges. After the 4th try at the kiss and the obvious magnetism between them, she begins mulling over the idea of having just kissed a random stranger and Graham - mildly intoxicated - looks on as she rationalizes, out loud, the possibility of treating herself to a one night stand with him during her holiday. Between the music and the chemistry percolating between the characters, I was intrigued to find out where this story was going and what led up to scene I watched play out. Immediately, I was onboard for the ride - entranced with Amanda's fashion sense, views of the gorgeous English countryside and more dreamy music. When it was over, the movie's soundtrack album was instantly added to my music and I started the movie over to watch from the beginning. This is when I fell HARD and head over heels for a pair of white striped pajamas.

There's a scene at the beginning of the movie where Amanda is having an argument with her about-to-be-ex-boyfriend, Ethan, played by Ed Burns. As a fashion junkie, I may have gasped when I saw Amanda throw a shoe at Ethan's head, not because of the violence, but because of the gorgeous, seemingly cotton and/or silk (maybe satin) blend striped pajama set she was wearing. It was crisp, yet flowy, and comfy looking; understated elegance. I wasn't into white PJs or even grown-up PJ sets at the time (I was still wearing random tees and shorts or tanks and novelty printed bottoms [think pizza slices and cartoon characters]), but there was something about this set that captured my attention and never left my consciousness.

Every time I watched the movie - and I've watched it plenty - I'd make a mental note during the fight scene to get myself a nice set of white PJs like Amanda's. I envisioned myself wearing them on a relaxing vacation where I'd have breakfast on a balcony or patio outdoors and leisurely soak in the picturesque morning scenery around me.

Seven years later, I finally found a pair that -although not EXACTLY the same - are similar enough to put my longing for Amanda Wood's white PJs to rest. And yes, I am absolutely, positively OBSESSED with them!🥰🥰🥰

I'm torn between wearing them "just because" or saving them for that special getaway. My inner Amanda Woods is telling me "just because" is good enough! What do you think?
