Summer Style: 2021 Swimsuit Edition

Summer style isn't complete without a post about the swimwear I picked up this season. I thought I'd get a chance to pack them in my suitcase on a trip somewhere, but it hasn't been in the cards, thus far. If the warm weather hangs around for a few more months and the pandemic starts to ease up, it just might happen *fingers crossed*. I'm ready to take my newly vaccinated status for spin on a getaway...even a quick one!

Until such time, check out the newly added bathing suits, cover-ups and beach hats I've added to my wardrobe this season. As always, for items that are no longer available, similar items will be linked.

White Eyelet Bikini

This white eyelet 2-piece bikini was my first purchase. Never met an eyelet item I didn't like and having the detail on a bathing suit was right up my alley. The romantic and ultra feminine puffy sleeves sealed the deal. If you're a little self-conscious about your arms, this suit is the perfect fit. The top and bottom are lined in the areas that need coverage most (chest area and bikini bottoms), while the arms allow for a modest glimpse of your skin underneath and the feel of a gentle breeze to pass through. I've seen similar sets from other brands selling for much more, but this set was incredibly affordable for the quality. The bottoms are a little on the cheeky side if you prefer more modest coverage, but the material is pretty thick and durable. Ordering up a size gave me just a tad more coverage on the bikini bottoms, but my top is a smidge too big to the point where it doesn't hug my under-bust as snuggly as it should. With a nip here and there it'll be a perfect fit, so it's a keeper. I love the overall sexy sweet vibe this set is giving.

If cheeky bottoms aren't your thing, you can always wear a wrap as I'm doing in the photos, below, to keep things covered. This all-white look is so fresh. If given the opportunity to wear it after Labor Day, I absolutely will!

Palm Print One-piece Bathing Suit

O.K., I have an addiction to palm and tropical prints. It may have something to do with being a native Miamian. For as much as I miss the visual beauty of the changing of the season most areas of the country gets to experience, I have a deep appreciation for palm trees and green leaves. On trees, on tees, on shirts, on skirts...you name it! And now, on a swimsuit. The cute sheer bubble sleeves also drew me in, but it was mainly the large leafy print that prompted me to add it to my cart without hesitation. It's not too cheeky and more on the modest side with regard to butt coverage, so if a bikini isn't your thing, a festive one-piece like this ticks all the boxes. The square neckline with puffy sleeves appears to be my go-to this year. There's something low-key romantic about this style. And say what you will about SHEIN, they're pretty good at putting out some quality bathing suits that you could easily overpay for with other brands. When you think about how much you actually wear each suit, you get your cost per wear and then some, here.

I've accessorized this one-piece in two ways; with neutral accessories and with a contrasting stripe in the same color palette. Initially, I planned to style it with the neutral tote, shoe and straw hat, but fell in love with the look of the contrasting nautical striped tote and espadrilles. I guess it depends on your mood. Do you want to blend in and be low-key or do you want to stand out in a burst of color and patterns?

Striped Bikini Top and Solid Bathing Suit Bottom

I didn't purchase the 2-piece featured below as a set, but discovered these separates worked perfectly together. The red and blue striped, triangle bikini top was purchased about 4 years ago from Target with the intention of finding a coordinating bottom in navy or red to compliment it. Anyone who's ever tried to match blues or reds knows it can be a matter of hit or miss. Luckily, I held on to this top waiting for magic to happen and it occurred without me noticing. The navy bottom was actually part of another 2-piece set I picked up last year. It was my first foray into the high-waisted bottoms trend and wasn't sure how well the style would work with my body type. Turns out I liked the bottoms, along with the top accompanying it. It wasn't until this year, when trawling through my stash for something to style up for Independence Day that I laid eyes on the striped top, again, fortuitously resting near the navy blue bottoms. The rest, as they say, is history. My striped top officially found a mate and, although neither item is new, they are new together. The initial vision come to life!

Often, we shop for bathing suits as sets, but don't sleep on purchasing separates that coordinate perfectly.
