Style Diary: What I Ordered vs What I Got -Swimsuit Edition 2022
Updated: Jul 9, 2022
Summer has arrived! For some places it appeared it would never come with cooler weather lingering longer than expected. Me, I've been adding swimsuits to my Wish List since early Spring. And SHEIN, my favorite online retailer, had no shortage of cute affordable styles to choose from. Here's what I added to my swimsuit collection in 2022.

First thing in my cart was a white one-shoulder bathing suit with a ruffle neckline. Elegant, romantic and sophisticated, I had to have it. Coming in at $15, I feel as if I've committed the crime of theft by owning it. Initially, I placed it in my cart to hang out for a week or so before pulling the trigger because I had already placed a previous order before noticing it added to the site as a "New In" item. I knew it wouldn't last long, which is why I gave myself a week to decide. But while compiling links for a Spring wish list post to this blog, I saw the "low stock" notification hovering next to listing in my cart. Although the temperatures were not exactly bathing suit ready at that time, folks - like me - were already preparing well in advance by shopping early. In a case of shopper's panic, I added a few other items with "low stock" suddenly hovering nearby and did the deed. From the photos below, you can easily see I have no regrets! It is stunning, flattering...and oh, so comfortable!
It also makes pairs wonderfully with any kind of bottom or coverup before or after a dip in the water. I paired it with this wrap skirt I picked up some years ago on ebay (no longer available). Love this brunch-ready look!
Now, while you might think my 1st acquisition for the season was on the modest side, my next two are in keeping with that theme despite both being 2-piece sets. Although listed as bikinis they provide adequate coverage both up top and below. The element of fun comes in due to their vibrant and shocking colors. What also appealed to me were the added details with regard to sleeve design on the tops and knotted features on the high-waisted bottoms. There was some concern about whether this shade of pink was age-appropriate, but I knew it would be banging against my skin. To hell with whether it's appropriate for my age. It's appropriate for my body and sense of fun! You can't wear this and not feel joy. The sunglasses, also from SHEIN (and linked below), really adds to the vibe for me in this full-on Barbie Summer Style.
I also paired the set with the wrap skirt, seen above, for another lunch by the pool/beach ensemble (click on arrow to scroll to the right).

For my final look, I wanted to go BOLD and bright and this highlighter lemon/lime color hit the mark. If the pink was bubble-gum electric, then this is more color shock. Again, I knew the color would really pop against my brown skin; the two complementing each other. Of course, my love for one-shoulder and off-shoulder necklines was a major factor, but the semi-modesty of this 2-piece also made it a winner. My abs are out, but I workout, so no need to cover it all up. Let that hard work shine in addition to the color, which -like the pink- is playful and fun!
Below, is how I paired the swimsuit with an equally colorful skirt (it was once a dress that I DIY'd) for a bold and vibrant day look before or after a swim. This outfit screams Living Out Loud!
Overall, I'm thrilled with my choices. They were all great buys in color, quality and comfort. It was $45 well spent!
